Microsoft’s next-generation operating system will be focused on biometric security, according to a recent press release published by the company’s partners.

Synaptics and AMD, two of the biggest names working with Microsoft on this platform, confirmed what’s being called “Microsoft’s forthcoming biometric security OS including Windows Hello” in a press announcement discussing a new joint project.

The goal of this effort is supposed to, according to the shared info, to bring us “a new industry benchmark in highly-secure biometric fingerprint authentication for enterprise/commercial and consumer notebook PCs based on next-generation AMD Ryzen Mobile platform and Microsoft’s next-generation operating system.”

You can read the full press release in the box after the jump, though no specifics are provided on what exactly the next-generation operating system from Microsoft is supposed to be.

The next-generation Microsoft OS

Synaptics discussing the next-generation Microsoft operating system leaves us with plenty of questions whose answered cannot be figured out right now, though we do know that the company is working on several projects in this regard.

In addition to Windows 10 itself, the software giant has been actively involved in the development of adjacent projects that could at some point serve as the foundation of this operating system focused on biometric security.

For example, Windows Polaris has been rumored to be the name of a new operating system that Microsoft might use on mobile devices like Surface Phone/Andromeda, with the focus indeed on security. Limited to Microsoft Store apps like Windows 10 in S Mode, Polaris was supposed to allow Win32 applications through virtualization, though it’s not clear how biometrics would play a key role here.

Our only option right now is to wait until more details are available, but by the looks of things, Microsoft is ready to bet big on biometric security, and Windows Hello will play the central role.
