Outlook adoption on mobile platforms going strong

The adoption of Microsoft’s mobile email client has reached a new record, according to official figures provided by the company itself.

Microsoft Outlook for iOS and Android is now running on more than 100 million devices worldwide, which does nothing more than show the software giant is doing the right thing in the mobile business.

Microsoft abandoned its very own Windows 10 Mobile platform to focus on Android and iOS apps and services, and the company invested aggressively to optimize its full offering for these two platforms. Outlook is living proof that Microsoft’s mobile strategy is working, and the company confirmed in its latest earnings report that the adoption of the email app is improving fast.

“All this innovation is driving growth: Office 365 commercial now has 180 million users. Our EMS install base reached 100 million. And the Outlook apps on iOS and Android surpassed more than 100 million users for the first time this quarter,” CEO Satya Nadella said in the earnings call with analysts.

Outlook by Accompli

Outlook isn’t an application developed by Microsoft, however. The Redmond-based software giant purchased Accompli back in 2014 and then rebranded their email client as Outlook to integrate it into its own product offering in the mobile ecosystem.

Since then, Outlook received a plethora of improvements, so it’s now considered one of the leading choices in terms of email apps on both Android and iOS. Many use it as their daily driver given the smooth integration of Microsoft Exchange support, while others install Outlook for personal accounts, like those offered by Microsoft and Google.

Needless to say, Outlook is set to improve even more in the coming months and years, and Microsoft is clearly very committed to push it harder as part of the Office productivity suite.
