Dark modes are the next cool thing in mobile, and Microsoft can’t ignore his whole trend given that its mobile push is all about apps and services these days.

The most recent step that the company made in this direction is a dark mode for Microsoft Edge browser on Android.

The latest version of the app thus brings this welcome visual style on Android Q, according to the official changelog published in the Google Play Store, so if you’re running this latest version of Google’s operating system, the browser should adapt to the overall system settings.

“Thanks for using Microsoft Edge! Android Q dark mode support is available with this update. This release also includes general bug fixes and performance improvements,” the official changelog reads.

Edge on the desktop

Microsoft Edge has become a much more important project for Microsoft, and the company is putting a lot of effort into getting this app right.

On the desktop. Microsoft is moving Edge to the Chromium engine, which is the same one that powers Google Chrome and which allows the software giant to make the browser cross-platform. Microsoft Edge will thus land on macOS and older Windows versions, and possibly on Linux as well at some point.

The Chromium Microsoft Edge is already in development, but specifics as to when the stable build could launch are not yet available.

Meanwhile, users can enroll in the Microsoft Edge Insider program and try out the Canary, Dev, and Beta builds to see what’s to come in the browser once it goes live for everyone.

Recent findings indicated that Microsoft Edge could replace the current iteration in Windows 10 as the new default in the 20H1 feature update. This release is projected to happen in the spring of 2020, according to Microsoft’s current schedule.
