Three perks define it: power, speed, and compatibility

We knew Microsoft's next console will be even more powerful than the current generation, but we didn't know how much more powerful it would be. Thankfully, even though many gaming events have been canceled, thus preventing Microsoft from revealing details about the console, the company has finally revealed all the technical specifications of the Xbox Series X.

As many of you might have guessed, there are a lot of technical terms included in Microsoft's very long blog post, but the Redmond-based company published a glossary that contains all the information about these terms and acronyms.

The folks at Digital Foundry have visited Microsoft's headquarters and dismantled an Xbox Series X just to see what's inside and be able to talk about it. They have just released a deep dive video that gamers can check out to get a better sense of what the Xbox Series X has to offer in terms of power.

The most important thing about the Xbox Series X is support for hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing, the same technology that NVIDIA implemented in some of its latest graphics cards. The new feature enables shadows cast from objects to soften or harden depending on how far away from the object the player is. Other surfaces like the water gain traits like transparency and the same goes for glass.

Another important aspect of the Xbox Series X is speed. Microsoft included a 1GB SSD inside the console to make sure that the console delivers enough speed to meet even the most demanding hardware processes.

Xbox Series X's SSD comes with a new technology called Xbox Velocity Architecture, which features tight integration between hardware and software. According to Microsoft, the new technology will unlock new capabilities for developers like the possibility to access 100GB of game assets instantly.

Microsoft's next-gen console features a new Quick Resume technology, which was revealed earlier this year. The Xbox Series X will allow players to quick resume multiple games with the press of a button, instead of just one like the current generation consoles.

Last but not least, thousands of games on Xbox One, as well as Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, will play better on Xbox Series X. All these older games will benefit from the improved hardware of the upcoming console, including improved boot and load times, more stable frame rates, higher resolutions and improved image quality.
