14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update for Windows 11 devices, with the rollout to take place automatically via Windows Update.
Windows 11 cumulative update KB5014697 is part of the June 2022 Patch Tuesday cycle, so its main focus is to address the latest vulnerabilities the company has become aware of.
“This update contains miscellaneous security improvements to internal OS functionality. No additional issues were documented for this release,” Microsoft explains in the official release notes.
When it comes to non-security improvements, this new update comes with all the changes that were part of the optional release dated May 24 and available as KB5014019.
One of the most important is the debut of Windows spotlight on the desktop, which allows users to have their desktop wallpapers changed automatically based on Microsoft’s famous service (previously available exclusively on the lock screen).
“Windows spotlight on the desktop brings the world to your desktop with new background pictures. With this feature, new pictures will automatically appear as your desktop background. This feature already exists for the lock screen. To turn on this feature, go to Settings > Personalization > Background > Personalize your background. Choose Windows spotlight,” the company explains.
Just one known issue
Microsoft says this update comes with just one known issue, but a workaround is already available. It concerns the .NET Framework 3.5 apps, with the glitch previously documented by Microsoft on the Windows health dashboard page.
“After installing this update, some .NET Framework 3.5 apps might have issues or might fail to open. Affected apps are using certain optional components in .NET Framework 3.5, such as Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow (WWF) components,” the company explains.
