A new preview build is live for the Dev channel

Microsoft has just released Windows 11 build 22538 for insiders in the Dev channel, with the company revealing not only a set of new features but several critical bug fixes.

The new build introduces several voice access improvements, including support for the touch keyboard, therefore making the new experience more straightforward from one end to another.

Then, Microsoft says this build also enables the new entry point for widgets with the weather on the taskbar for all users. Previously, this updated experience was only available for a limited set of insiders.

The company explains it has also brought its new IME and touch keyboard designs to the lock screen.

“Our updated IMEs and touch keyboard designs will now show on the Lock screen and where you enter your account information such as username and password. This change is currently rolling out to a subset of Windows Insiders at first and we’ll expand over time based on feedback,” it says.

Known issues

Just like most Windows insider builds, this new release comes with its very own set of known issues, including two bugs affecting the taskbar (one of them is completely new).

“We’re investigating reports of two arrows appearing for the hidden icon flyout and the Quick Settings icons and date and time are misaligned. Rebooting may resolve the issue,” Microsoft explains about the new bug that comes with this build. “The taskbar will sometimes flicker when switching input methods,” the company adds about the second taskbar bug.

Needless to say, this is a preview build, so users could come across other issues in there as well. This is the reason you’re not supposed to install Windows 11 preview builds on your main systems, as it’s always a much better idea to only test-drive these builds using a virtual machine.
