14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has finally rolled out another cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), nearly a month after the previous release that landed as part of the November Patch Tuesday.
Windows 10 cumulative update KB4469342 has been in beta testing for quite a while, and after being thoroughly tested by Windows insiders, it’s now available for everyone running version 1809 from Windows Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog.
There are lots of fixes in this update, and Microsoft has resolved several known bugs in Windows 10 version 1803, including a brightness issue that reset users’ preferences when the system rebooted.
Microsoft has also addressed the file associations issue in the October update, and a similar fix should be released to the other Windows 10 versions, including the April 2018 Update, on the next Patch Tuesday on December 11.
Two known issues
There are also improvements for enterprise users, including for Microsoft Intune. The company explains:
“Addresses an issue with Microsoft Intune that causes devices to be incorrectly marked as not compliant because a firewall incorrectly returns a 'Poor' status. As a result, the affected devices will not receive conditional access compliance approval and may be blocked from access to corporate resources such as email.”
There are two known issues in this cumulative update, both of which have been there in the previous Windows 10 updates too. One affects Windows Media Player and hides the seek bar, with a fix coming next week. The other one leads to crashes in Microsoft Edge due to NVIDIA drivers, and new software to resolve it has already been released.
This cumulative update increases the OS build number to 17763.168. To check if KB4469342 installed correctly, you can verify the OS build on your system by typing winver in the Start menu. Also, look in the Windows Update History to check the installation status.
