Microsoft has released a new update for Windows 10 in order to resolve a bug breaking down microphones in Voice Recorder and other apps on the system.

The patch is KB4516421, and it is offered as an out-of-band non-security update, with Microsoft saying it that it pushed it to devices specifically to address the glitch causing USB Audio 2.0 multi-channel microphones to fail.

“Addresses an issue in which some customers may be unable to use USB Audio 2.0 multi-channel microphones in Voice Recorder and similar apps,” Microsoft explains in the release notes.

Interestingly, the update isn’t available on the Microsoft Update Catalog, but on the other hand, it’s served to devices through Windows Update automatically. Microsoft explains the update will be downloaded and installed automatically on affected devices.

Additionally, KB4516421 is also available for Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) for servers.

New cumulative updates on their way

Microsoft has several other bugs to fix on Windows 10 following the release of new cumulative updates earlier this month on the September 10 Patch Tuesday.

Additionally, the company recently confirmed that on Windows 10 version 1903 some users might lose wireless connectivity, so it put an upgrade block in place to make sure devices potentially affected by this issue continue to work normally.

“Microsoft and NEC have found incompatibility issues with Intel Centrino 6205/6235 and Broadcom 802.11ac Wi-Fi cards when running Windows 10, version 1903 on specific models of NEC devices. If these devices are updated to Windows 10, version 1903, they will no longer be able to use any Wi-Fi connections,” Microsoft explains.

New non-security cumulative updates for Windows 10 are projected to go live later this month, and the focus this time will be on resolving all these problems that have been discovered recently in the OS.
