14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released a new Windows 10 Redstone 5 preview build for the Fast ring and the Fast ring only, which means that those who opted for Skip Ahead won’t get a new build for now.
Since Windows 10 Redstone 5 is approaching the stabilization phase, there won’t be too many breaking changes in the next builds, and today’s release doesn’t make an exception to this.
And yet, Windows 10 build 17728 does come with some welcome improvements, including the Your Phone app that brings phones in sync with Windows 10 PCs.
With Your Phone, Windows 10 users can access photos on their mobile phones easily, and Microsoft says that in the coming weeks, Android users will see the app’s icon pinned to the desktop to launch it faster.
Narrator improvements and known issues
This new build also includes a bunch of Narrator improvements, like keyboard command changes, as the keystroke to Move to beginning of text has changed from Narrator + Control + B to Narrator to B. You can read all Narrator updates in the box after the jump.
Windows 10 Redstone 5 build 17728 also comes with other smaller refinements, like the Clock and Calendar flyout sometimes not working. This bug also exists in the most recent Skip Ahead build, and Microsoft says it has fixed it for now - the issue will most likely be fixed with the next release of a Windows 10 Redstone 6 build for Skip Ahead users.
There are also some known issues too, and Microsoft says that as it continues working on the dark theme for File Explorer, some unusual light colors may show up from time to time.
“We’re progressing in our work on adding dark theme in File Explorer and the Common File Dialog – you’ll notice improvements in this build, although we still have a few things left to do. You may see some unexpectedly light colors in these surfaces when in dark mode and/or dark on dark text,” Microsoft says.
