New build now available for users in the Dev channel

Microsoft has released a new preview build of Windows 10 for users in the Dev channel, this time with a series of new features too.

Windows 10 build 20231 introduces a new initial device setup experience that makes it possible to configure from the very beginning how you want to use the PC. You are allowed to choose from gaming, entertainment, business, schoolwork, family, and creativity, with this feature at one point to suggest different options based on your choice.

At this point, however, this feature isn’t working, as Microsoft is just paving the road for its development.

In addition, this build also introduces better management options for app default file associations.

“Enterprise customers can now modify file associations on a per-user or per-device basis. This change will apply to existing users as well as users with new deployments. This means that IT admins can set which apps will automatically open various file types or links. For example, this makes it easy to set Microsoft Edge as your organization’s default browser, or always open PDFs in your organization’s preferred app. Leveraging this group policy for the default browser and common file types means that your organization’s end users will not have to decide on these defaults themselves,” the company explains.

Several known issues too

Needless to say, there are also more improvements under the hood, so for example, starting with this build the Meet Now icon in the Windows 10 taskbar is available for all insiders enrolled in the Dev channel.

There are obviously several known issues too, and you can check them in full in the box after the jump.

Worth knowing is that the new features being tested as part of the Dev channel don’t have a release date just yet, as Microsoft wants to ship them when they’re ready.
