New build available right now for the Fast ring

Microsoft has recently confirmed that the next Windows 10 release would be called October 2018 Update, so the company used this occasion to ship a new build that pushes us one step closer to the highly-anticipated sign-off date.

Windows 10 build 17751 is all about bug fixes and general improvements, so you won’t find any new features in here. The release is specifically aimed at users enrolled in the Fast ring of the Windows Insider program.

While no new features have been included, there’s one big change that’s worth highlighting. In this build, Microsoft has removed the watermark in the right lower corner, but Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, says this doesn’t mean what you think it means.

No watermark

In other words, no, this isn’t the RTM build, as Redstone 5 is still work in progress, but the simple removal of the watermark is living proof we’re getting closer to the update sign-off.

“The build watermark at the lower right-hand corner of the desktop is no longer present in this build. This does not mean this is the final build as we are not done yet. We’re just now beginning the phase of checking in final code to prepare for the final release,” Dona posted.

There are also some known issues in this build, and you can check out the full change log in the box after the jump, but they’re only three, which can be good news given that we’re approaching the final development stages.

Most likely, these glitches will be ironed out in the coming builds, as Microsoft reportedly wants to ship the final build in mid-September before signing off the October 2018 Update on September 26.

The public rollout is projected to begin in early October if everything goes according to the plan, but it all depends on how smoothly the experience with these latest builds really is.
