Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 version 2004, or May 2020 Update, late last month for a limited set of devices as part of the company’s phased rollout strategy.

This means that only a small set of computers are provided with the update, and then the rollout is supposed to advance as Microsoft determines the reliability and the likelihood of bugs on specific hardware and software configurations.

The rollout of Windows 10 May 2020 Update is ready to advance to the next phase, as Microsoft has recently confirmed that it made the new feature update available for more devices.

However, worth knowing is that the update hasn’t yet reached the automatic rollout, which means that manually checking for updates in Windows Update is still required.

Only available for seekers

And more importantly, version 2004 continues to be available exclusively for users running Windows 10 version 1903 and 1909 – everyone else still on an older version of the operating system just need to wait a little bit longer until the update goes live on Windows Update for their devices.

“Windows 10, version 2004 is available for users with devices running Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 who manually seek to ‘Check for updates’ via Windows Update. We are continuing our measured approach on initial availability, as we listen, learn, and adjust. Today we are increasing the number of devices that will be offered the May Update. The recommended servicing status is Semi-Annual Channel,” Microsoft explains.

Microsoft hasn’t shared any target as to when the company wants Windows 10 May 2020 Update to reach broad availability, but this is expected to happen later this summer. Once this phase is reached, Windows 10 May 2020 Update becomes available for everyone and the new version is offered automatically to users on Windows Update.
