Microsoft has released new cumulative updates for Windows 10, and the changelog comes with several important fixes, including for the Start menu bug that hit so many users in the last few weeks.

These cumulative updates are currently offered as optional on Windows Update, and this means that users need to manually run a check for updates to be offered the new packs of improvements.

However, all the fixes here will also be part of the next cumulative rollout that Microsoft will release for Windows 10 devices on the November Patch Tuesday.

At that point, cumulative updates are automatically offered to Windows 10 computers.

Today’s cumulative updates are aimed at almost all Windows 10 versions on the market, according to the table below:

Windows 10 version 1809: KB4520062 (OS Build 17763.832)
Windows 10 version 1803: KB4519978 (OS Build 17134.1099)
Windows 10 version 1709: KB4520006 (OS Build 16299.1481)
Windows 10 version 1607: KB4519979 (OS Build 14393.3300)
Windows 10 version 1903, or May 2019 Update, which is the latest stable feature update for Microsoft’s operating system, isn’t getting a cumulative update this time, but a new release is expected by the end of the month anyway.

One of the most important bugs that these cumulative updates fix concerns the Start menu. For example, KB4520062 resolves the blank tiles bug in the Start menu on Windows 10 version 1809.

“Prevents the appearance of blank tiles in the Start menu when you upgrade to Windows 10, version 1809 from any previous version of Windows 10. These blank tiles have names such as “ms-resource:AppName” or "ms-resource:appDisplayName". However, if you have already upgraded to Windows 10, version 1809, installing this update will not remove existing blank tiles,” Microsoft explains.

You can download the new cumulative updates today from Windows Update, and you can check out the changelogs on the links above for more information on what’s improved.
