14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released a new batch of cumulative updates for Windows 10 as part of the monthly Patch Tuesday cycle.
The January 2019 rollout comprises cumulative updates for all Windows 10 versions, including the October 2018 Update (version 1809), though it’s worth knowing that versions older than the Fall Creators Update are only serviced on Enterprise and Education SKUs.
Windows 10 Home and Pro devices only receive updates on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709), Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803), and Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809).
This month’s cumulative updates are the following: KB4480116 (October update), KB4480966 (April update), and KB4480978 (Fall Creators Update).
Because they land on Patch Tuesday, the focus is obviously on resolving security vulnerabilities in Windows 10.
The changelog indicates that we’re getting patches for Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer, the Microsoft Scripting engine, the Windows kernel, and other Windows components.
Delta updates also offered
In the case of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update cumulative update, there is a chance that other refinements are included as well, especially because Microsoft has several bugs to fix in this release.
Version 1809 was originally published on October 2, but was then pulled due to critical bugs leading to the removal of user files. However, the update was then republished in November, and Microsoft is now resolving the latest bugs with each cumulative update rollout.
At the time of writing this article, we aren’t aware of any issues that may be experienced during the installation, and we’re now in the process of updating our systems too.
