New update now live in the Release Preview channel

Microsoft has recently released a new cumulative update for Windows users who are part of the Release Preview channel in the Windows Insider program.

The new cumulative update is aimed at Windows 10 version 21H2 and 21H1 builds, and given it’s only aimed at insiders, it obviously doesn’t bring a lot of changes.

Cumulative update KB5007253 therefore increases the OS build number to 19044.1381 and 19044.1381, respectively, and it comes specifically to resolve a problem impacting Windows Hello.

“We fixed an issue that might affect devices that use Windows Hello for Business and are joined to Azure Active Directory (AD). These devices might experience issues when they access on-premises resources, such as file shares or websites,” Microsoft explains.

Small changes

Other than that, this new cumulative update includes all the changes that have been part of the previous version of this release, including fixes specifically aimed at Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.

“We enabled onunload events to create pop-up windows in Microsoft Edge Internet Explorer mode. We fixed an issue that affects predictive pre-rendering in Microsoft Edge Internet Explorer mode. We fixed an issue that causes Internet Explorer to stop working. We fixed an issue that causes Internet Explorer to stop working when using the Input Method Editor (IME) to insert elements,” Microsoft explained.

There’s no ETA as to when this new cumulative update is supposed to go live for production devices, but this shouldn’t take too long, with all improvements to be part of the next Patch Tuesday rollout anyway.

There are no failed installs reported so far, and it goes without saying insiders are recommended to download and install the cumulative update as soon as possible, especially as Microsoft needs to collect additional feedback to figure out if the rollout to production devices can be started or not.
