Microsoft has released a new optional update, but this time only Windows 10 version 1909 is getting it, with the other versions likely to follow shortly.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4601380 is offered as a preview ahead of the next Patch Tuesday cycle, thus giving users and IT admins the chance to try out the update before it lands on their devices via Windows Update.

The update increases the OS build number to 18363.1411, and it comes with several non-security improvements, including patches for an error causing a BSOD on startup on some devices.

Microsoft says it has also corrected a glitch that caused screen rendering problems after launching games on some devices, while also addressing the high CPU and memory usage in Microsoft Defender for Endpoint.

Next Patch Tuesday on March 9

The official changelog, which you can find embedded below in the box after the jump, also points to fixes for issues discovered in Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Edge. The company explains the following:

“Addresses an issue with the x86 version of Microsoft Excel 365 Version 2011. It fails to open if you enable the SimExec feature of Defender Exploit Protection or stops working if you disable the SimExec exploit protection and enable the CallerCheck protection.

Addresses an issue that displays an error when you attempt to open an untrusted webpage using Microsoft Edge or open an untrusted Microsoft Office document. The error is, "WDAG Report - Container: Error: 0x80070003, Ext error: 0x00000001". This issue occurs after installing the .NET update KB4565627.”

Keep in mind this update is currently just a preview, so it won’t be offered automatically to Windows 10 devices out there. The next Patch Tuesday update is projected to go live on March 9, so this will be the day when new cumulative updates will become available for all Windows 10 devices.
