Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 20H1 to fix a shutdown and reboot bug that the company discovered in the latest preview builds shipped to insiders.

Cumulative update KB4526447 increases the OS build number to 19002.1002 and can be downloaded right now in the Fast ring.

The shutdown and restart glitch was discovered in the latest two preview builds, and Microsoft has already acknowledged the bug last week. A temporary workaround involved initiating the shutdown and reboot tasks from the Command Prompt with special instructions to bypass the bug.

The new cumulative update released today resolves the issue, restoring the expected behavior for both the shutdown and the reboot tasks on Windows 10 20H1. Of course, the fix will also be included in the next preview build that Microsoft ships to Windows insiders in the Fast ring.

There are no other fixes in this cumulative update. To check if the update installed correctly, click the Start menu and type winver to check the version number. If KB4526447 is already running on your device, the version number should be 19002.1002.

Windows 10 20H1 is projected to launch in the first months of 2020, as per Microsoft’s typical release schedule. If the standard calendar is used, Windows 10 20H1 should be finalized in March as version 2003, while the public rollout to production devices should begin in April or May.

The 20H1 feature will come with major improvements judging from the preview builds currently available for insiders, and there’s a good chance it’ll also land with a new browser. The Chromium-based Microsoft Edge could replace the current browser as the new default, as the stable version of the app is expected to see daylight in the coming months just ahead of the 20H1 debut.
