Microsoft has released a new cumulative update for Windows 10 October 2018 Update, or version 1809.

The update ships as KB4501835 and includes non-security fixes exclusively, as you can see in the changelog embedded in the box after the jump.

All improvements are aimed at the new Japanese Era, with a single fix supposed to correct an issue on UEFI systems.

“Addresses an issue in Unified Write Filter (UWF) that prevents Hibernate Once/Resume Many (HORM) from working as expected on Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) systems,” Microsoft notes in the changelog.

Four known issues

There are four known issues in this cumulative update, and all of them are inherited from the previous releases for Windows 10 version 1809.

One of them concerns a compatibility problem with antivirus software that could cause the computer to become unresponsive on boot.

“Microsoft and ArcaBit have identified an issue on devices with ArcaBit antivirus software installed that may cause the system to become unresponsive upon restart after installing this update,” Microsoft notes.

The same issue exists in the April 2019 updates for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. No other antivirus products should be impacted, Microsoft says, albeit in the case of Windows 7, security software from Sophos, McAfee, Avast, and Avira also experienced such issues.

Devices running ArcaBit antivirus software are thus blocked from getting this update, as per Microsoft. A patch to resolve the bug, however, has already been released by ArcaBit, and once it’s installed, the new cumulative update is offered to devices as well.

A new batch of cumulative updates for Windows 10 is projected to go live on May 14 as part of this month’s Patch Tuesday rollout. This next release, however, will be focused specifically on resolving security vulnerabilities, whereas today’s cumulative update addresses non-security bugs.
