Microsoft has released a new set of cumulative updates for Windows 10, and version 1803, also known as April 2018 Update, is being provided with KB4487029.

This update increases the OS build number to 17134.619, and it comes with a plethora of improvements, all of them supposed to resolve bugs in the operating system.

There are no security fixes in this update, as this is the focus of cumulative updates released on Patch Tuesday – this month, Microsoft published cumulative updates with security improvements on February 12.

The full changelog is embedded in the box at the end of the article, but you should know that Microsoft finally fixes a several-months-old issue in the Start menu blocking users from pinning web links to the Start menu. The issue was first acknowledged in late 2018, and is now fixed with today’s release.

No update for the October update

Additionally, there are several improvements for IT admins, and one of them improves device compatibility with updates. Microsoft explains in the changelog:

“Addresses an issue with evaluating the compatibility status of the Windows ecosystem to help ensure application and device compatibility for all updates to Windows.”

At the time of writing this article, I’m not aware of any issues hitting this Windows 10 cumulative update. As many users learned the hard way, cumulative updates sometimes fail to install or cause other problems post installation.

This doesn’t seem to be the case with KB4487029, and the update even comes without any known issues.

Today’s rollout also includes cumulative updates for older versions of Windows 10, but surprisingly, there are no improvements for the October 2018 Update, which is the latest release of the operating system. Most likely, Microsoft first wants to evaluate the performance of a new cumulative update with help from insiders before rolling it out to all users.
