Microsoft has rolled out another cumulative update for Windows 10, but despite all users expecting more improvements for the October 2018 Update, this new release is specifically targeting version 1607 and Windows Server 2016.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4478877 increases the OS build number to 14393.2641, and it comes with just a single improvement, as explained by Microsoft itself:

“Addresses an issue that prevents the release of the on-demand Source Network Address Translation (SNAT) port allocated to a virtual machine (VM) after the SNAT port is no longer in use. As a result, the SNAT port becomes exhausted.”

As you can see, there are no improvements for home users, and there shouldn’t even be any, as Windows 10 version 1607 is no longer getting updates for Home and Pro SKUs.

Version 1607 has already reached the end-of-support, so the updates that are released by Microsoft are only shipped to devices running Enterprise and Education versions enrolled in the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC).

Three known issues

This update also comes with three different known issues, including a .NET Framework glitch and a Media Player error that Microsoft says it would fix later this month.

Additionally, the company claims that when features related to end-user-defined characters (EUDC) are used, the entire system may become unresponsive after installing this cumulative update.

“Double-click any font file or navigate to the font folders immediately after logging on. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release,” the company says.

There are no other cumulative updates released today for the rest of the Windows 10 versions on the market. However, Microsoft is expected to publish a large batch of improvements next week as part of the December 2018 Patch Tuesday cycle. A new update for Windows 10 version 1809 will also be released.
