14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has just released Windows 10 build 21343 for insiders in the Dev channel, and everyone can download it right now from Windows Update.
There are two notable changes in this update: the addition of Fluent icons in File Explorer and improvements for Windows Sandbox and Microsoft Defender Application Guard.
The File Explorer part is something that makes total sense, especially since Microsoft has been working on a new set of icons for Windows 10. The new icons thus provide the file manager with a more modern look, so it’s without a doubt a welcome refresh.
As far as Windows Sandbox and MDAG are concerned, both are supposed to get faster loading times, Microsoft explains.
“Both Windows Sandbox and Microsoft Defender Application Guard take advantage of special container technology built into Windows 10. Previously, the container runtime matched the host. Starting with Build 21343, we are introducing a new runtime that is designed and optimized for container scenarios. It is lightweight and allows faster launch times for both Windows Sandbox and Microsoft Defender Application Guard,” the company explains.
“We do not expect this change to affect the application compatibility inside Windows Sandbox. However, this is a significant change and users may encounter some differences in behavior.”
Windows Sandbox now featuring Chromium Edge
Windows Sandbox has also been updated to come with the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, thus replacing the legacy version of the browser.
More smaller changes are also part of this new release, including in the Start menu. Microsoft has renamed the Windows Administrative Tools in the Start menu to Windows Tools, as the company says it’s working on organizing the admin and system tools in a more straightforward manner.
