Microsoft has just released a new Windows 10 build for Skip Ahead insiders, in anticipation of the next major update for the operating system coming in the first half of 2019.

While all the eyes are now on the Redstone 5 update, which will launch next month as October 2018 Update, Microsoft also updates the Skip Ahead ring with preview builds for the first Windows 10 feature update due in 2019.

Windows 10 build 18242 doesn’t bring any new features, but only improvements and refinements to the overall Windows experience, and this more or less makes sense given this update is still in its early days and Microsoft is focused more on finalizing the October update.

You can check out the entire changelog in the box after the jump, but particularly important is that Microsoft has finally managed to fix the bug making notifications and the Action Center fully transparent in the previous build. This is an issue that has hit the last two preview builds pushed to the Skip Ahead ring.

Fixes and known issues

There are also changes for Japanese IME users, as Microsoft says it’s experimenting with new changes, though no specifics were provided.

“Some Insiders who have opted in to Skip Ahead may notice differences when using the Japanese IME in today’s build. We’re trying something out and will have more details about it later. If you have any feedback about your experience when using the IME, please let us know via Feedback Hub,” Microsoft says.

There are also two known issues in this build, including the Task Manager not reporting accurate CPU usage. Furthermore, arrows to expand background processes in Task Manager are “blinking constantly and weirdly,” as the company itself explains.

You can download this new build via Windows Update right now and check out the full release notes below to know what to expect.
