Microsoft has recently released a new Windows compatibility update, and this time, it is specifically aimed at devices running Windows 11 version 22H2.

The new update is KB5022609, and according to Microsoft, it’s a compatibility update for installing and recovering Windows 11 version 22H2. The company doesn’t provide too many specifics on what this update is supposed to do, but according to the brief description, it “makes improvements to the Windows recovery features for Windows 11 version 22H2.”

The timing of this new release isn’t surprising.

The rollout of Windows 11 version 22H2 has recently reached a new phase, with Microsoft now beginning the automatic updates on devices running version 21H2.

“We begin to automatically update consumer and non-managed business devices running Windows 11, version 21H2 Home and Pro editions to Windows 11, version 22H2,” Microsoft said. “The automatic update to Windows 11, version 22H2 will happen gradually starting with those devices that have been using version 21H2 for the longest period of time. As always, you will have the ability to choose a convenient time for your device to restart and complete the update.”

The new update is therefore supposed to ensure the compatibility of the device with Windows 11 version 22H2, and in case users come across bug, to allow a smooth recovery process on the computer.

What’s very important to know, however, is that the update is not released via Windows Update. Users can download it from the Microsoft Update Catalog manually, so it comes as a standalone package that must be installed on each device.

In the meantime, users who are still running Windows 11 version 21H2 can still update to the new version manually by just triggering the download with a check for updates in Windows Update.
