Microsoft has recently released an update for the Paint 3D app that brings some pretty neat touches to refine the overall experience that you get in Windows 10.

Paint 3D is Microsoft’s modern version of its famous Paint app, and even though the two are offered together in Windows 10, only the first one is getting updates and improvements.

Today, Microsoft shipped Paint 3D app version 4.1805.15037.0, which brings a few improvements, including an eye-candy effect in the ribbon.

Starting with this build, the ribbon displays icons with a nice reveal effect that pops up the text from under the icons with a simple mouse hover. This is certainly a modern touch that should have been there from the very beginning, but it’s probably better late than never.

At the same time, there are several other bug fixes and improvements in this new version of the Paint 3D app, so crashes and performance issues should no longer be there, or at least less prominent across the UI.

The Microsoft Store listing points to an old change log that includes tweaks like a new tutorial from the file menu in the Learning and Feedback section. Additionally, Microsoft also describes Magic select, a feature that makes it possible to copy cutouts from a certain photo and use them in a different pic or applications. These improvements came with the April 2018 Update earlier this month.

Paint 3D is part of Microsoft’s strategy of targeting creators and was originally included in the Windows 10 Creators Update shipped in the spring of 2017. A significant update was introduced with the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update later the same year when the company integrated support for Remix 3D, allowing users to upload and download 3D models.

Paint 3D is certainly evolving, and even though it might seem like it’s ready to replace the classic Paint app, Microsoft has guaranteed that the original version would live on, albeit without receiving any updates.
