Microsoft has released the first firmware updates for the recently-launch Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 6, and surprisingly, some of the included improvements are exclusive to Windows 10 version 1809 users.

Windows 10 version 1809, officially referred to as October 2018 Update, is no longer available for download, after Microsoft pulled it due to a critical data removal bug.

First off, it’s the Surface Pro 6 which is getting two firmware updates, one for Windows 10 version 1809 and another one for version 1803.

The October update release includes an update for the Surface Pen that resolves “intermittent pen top button click failure on Surface Pen with no clip-on Windows 10 October 2018 Update, version 1809.” The Surface HIDClass driver is also updated to version 1.0.9.0 with this release.

On the other hand, Surface Pro 6 units running Windows 10 version 1803 are getting several other driver updates, as detailed in the table below:

A similar rollout is being used for the Surface Laptop 2, with nearly the same improvements regardless of the Windows 10 version running on the device.

For example, Windows 10 version 1809 users are getting Surface Pen refinements like the ones mentioned above for the Surface Pro 6, while on the April update, the release comes with several other driver updates.

Microsoft says there are no known issues in these firmware updates, so everything should run correctly regardless of the device. Keep in mind that these are only the first updates that the company ships for the Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 6, so if there are any other bugs left unfixed, further fixes could follow soon.
