Happy happy joy joy! Microsoft just fixed one of the biggest Windows 8 problems of the month!

KB3069114 is one of the security updates that Microsoft released this month for Windows 8 users, but due to an unknown problem, the patch fails to install on a lot of computers running this particular OS version and despite all the workarounds that have been published online since then, it was pretty much impossible to resolve these issues.

Fortunately, Microsoft investigated these reports and discovered the problem, so on September 23, the company pushed out KB3096053 to fix installation issues with the previous update.

So basically, if you’re not able to install KB3069114, you should first download KB3096053 and only then attempt to get the original update. Microsoft says that everything should work like a charm.

“This update fixes an issue in which you may not be able to install Security update 3069114 because of corruption that occurs during the installation. After you install update 3096053, update 3069114 can be installed successfully,” it explains.

One thing that you should have in mind when trying to install the new update is that it could take a while to complete and Microsoft says that users should wait for several minutes and give it time to reach 100 percent. In some cases, it could seem like the update got stuck, but that’s not happening, and it only takes longer to install.

KB3069114, the original update shipped to Windows 8 computers, was supposed to address security vulnerabilities in Windows, with the most severe enabling attackers to get control of an unpatched system with the help of a specially created Windows Journal file.

So it’s pretty clear that patching systems was a priority for many, which makes the new update quite critical. If KB3096053 doesn’t show up in Windows Update and you don’t want to wait any longer, below are the download links for each version of Windows that is supported.
