Microsoft has just announced that it’s releasing an out-of-band update for Windows 11 devices in order to address a bug breaking down apps like Snipping Tool.

The issue was originally confirmed a few days ago when the company confirmed it was all caused due to an expired certificate. Microsoft also revealed that several other OS components were impacted, including the Touch Keyboard.

The new update lands at KB5008295, and It’s available via Windows Update today. It will be downloaded automatically on all Windows 11 devices.

“Microsoft is releasing an Out-of-band (OOB) update (KB5008295) today, November 5, 2021, to completely resolve a set of issues affecting the Snipping Tool, Touch Keyboard, some built-in apps and S Mode on Windows 11. These issues were partially resolved by KB5006746 released October 21, 2021,” Microsoft announced today.

Downloading the update

Microsoft has also released manual download links for the update, therefore allowing the deployment on devices where an Internet connection and automatic updates aren’t available.

“Devices directly connected to Windows Update and Windows Update for Business should be offered and automatically install KB5008295 to resolve the issues. If you would like to install the update before it is installed automatically, you will need to Check for updates. The update is available on Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog. In managed environments, you will need to import the package from Microsoft Update Catalog into your deployment tools,” the company says.

In the meantime, the rollout of Windows 11 continues, and Microsoft plans to bring the new operating system to all eligible devices by the summer of 2022.

In other words, the rollout should be accelerated in the first months of the next year, as the whole thing still happens slowly at this point. The release in waves allows Microsoft to detect problems early and prevent them from hitting more devices out there.
