Microsoft has just released a new Windows 11 cumulative update, though it’s only a preview version that allows users to try out some of the next Patch Tuesday improvements in advance.

Windows 11 cumulative update KB5014668 is therefore an optional update that users can download by manually checking for updates in Windows Update.

The most important change is the introduction of search highlights on production devices, but at the same time, update KB5014668 also comes with several worthy fixes.

For example, the update resolves a glitch that prevented users from upgrading to Windows 11, and it goes without saying this was a major bug that Microsoft just had to fix as fast as possible.

Here are the most important changes, as announced by Microsoft:

  • Addresses an issue that might prevent you from upgrading to Windows 11 (original release). Note that this is related to the timing of certain operations within the OS and is not related to device eligibility.
  • Addresses an issue that might prevent you from playing video clips in some games.
  • Addresses an issue that causes certain games to stop working if they use certain audio technology to play sound effects.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents Bluetooth from reconnecting to some audio devices after you restart the devices.
  • Changes the name of the Your Phone app to Phone Link on the Settings page.
  • Addresses an issue that causes the Microsoft Surface Dial customization settings page to stop working.
  • Addresses a known issue that might prevent you from using the Wi-Fi hotspot feature.

The next Patch Tuesday will take place on July 12, at which point all improvements that are part of this new cumulative update will be offered automatically to all Windows 11 devices via Windows Update. In addition, the next updates will also include security patches for the known vulnerabilities in Windows.
