Microsoft has released new firmware updates for the first and second-generation Surface Studio, and the focus is mostly on the NVIDIA GPU drivers that are available on these two models.

With the new firmware updates, which require at least Windows 10 version 1803, or April 2018 Update, Microsoft updates the NVIDIA display drivers to version 26.21.14.3140 for both configurations with GeForce GTX 965M and GeForce GTX 980M.

The software giant says the update improves Surface Pen latency, while at the same time enhancing reliability and device stability.

The same firmware for the Surface Studio includes an update for the Surface Pen to version 23.608.139.0. According to the official changelog, which is available on this page, this new release improves Surface Pen latency and reliability.

Similar improvements for the Surface Studio 2

As far as the second-generation Surface Studio is concerned, only the graphics drivers are updated with the very same changes as in the case of the original model. Again, Windows 10 April 2018 Update or newer is required, but that shouldn’t be a problem since this is the oldest version of Windows 10 still receiving updates.

Keep in mind that firmware updates roll out to Surface models in stages, so it could take a while until they show up on your device.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is gearing up for another major Surface event on October 2. However, the Surface Studio is unlikely to make it to the show this year, as the company is expected to focus on upgrades for the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop.

A hardware refresh for the Studio, however, isn’t totally out of the table, albeit for the time being, Microsoft just seems to be betting big on Surface Pro and Surface Laptop announces. The latest-generation Surface Studio was announced on October 2, 2018.
