Microsoft Edge Dev update pulled because of crashing issue

Microsoft has recently released a new update for Microsoft Edge Dev, but the company pulled it a few hours after the launch due to a major bug.

The weekly update for Microsoft Edge Dev pushed the version to 76.0.167.0 and included a built-in translator enabled for all users.

Additionally, it brought the dark mode to all devices, with the browser now matching the visual style on both Windows 10 and macOS.

And last but not least, this release enabled keyword search for the address bar. Microsoft explains how this feature works:

“When you begin to type the “keyword” for a search engine into the address bar, you will be reminded that you can press tab to search using that engine. You can also type the entire keyword and press space to enter keyword search mode.

If you continue typing and press enter, you will navigate directly to search results for that search engine. You may also see search suggestions from that engine as you type. Keyword search is available for all search engines you install or which are automatically detected for you as you browse.”

Update no longer up for grabs

There are several other improvements in this release, and you can check out the full changelog in the box after the jump.

However, the new Microsoft Edge Dev build is no longer available for download due to a bug causing the browser to crash on launch.

“We are currently investigating an issue with our latest Dev branch update that appears to stop some users from launching the browser after updating. We will provide an update as soon as we know more, or once a solution is found. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” Microsoft said in a tweet, followed by a confirmation that the update has already been pulled.

No ETA has been provided as to when the update would go live once again, but this should happen any day now.
