Microsoft has recently launched a new Microsoft Launcher for Android beta build in an attempt to correct a battery drain issue introduced in a previous release.

Available only for beta users, Microsoft Launcher 5.0.1.47080 comes with a series of changes that should help Microsoft determine the cause of the battery glitch, so it’s important for users to read the full release notes before installing it.

First and foremost, it’s important to know that this new version does not come with the Timeline feature, and users can no longer enable it in the settings screen.

Microsoft says that it has also implemented a new tool in this build that would collect info on the battery issue and send it to the company for further investigation.

Bug hunting

“We added a profiling tool; it is in Settings page => Utilities => CPU profiling tool, when you launch it, it will start collect log, you can do what ever you mostly will do and it will stop after 1 min. please only use this tool to send us log when your phone has battery issue, and you can add more details in the email you are sending to us,” the Microsoft Launcher engineering team explains.

There’s also a bunch of recommended workarounds for users hitting the battery issue, like signing out of the Microsoft Account and then signing in again. The software giant also says that disabling the news tab in feed could help, and so could turning off the Feed page entirely.

As the last workaround, you should check that the memory leak detection toggle is off in Settings > Utilities.

You can download the Microsoft Launcher beta APK from Softpedia using this link, but keep in mind this is an experimental release supposed to help the company track down a bug and it’s not aimed to become a daily driver.
