Canary version 80.0.319.0 now available for download

Microsoft has released a new update for the Canary channel of the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, and this time this version also comes with a changelog, which is rather unusual for a Canary build.

However, Microsoft says it’s experimenting with the idea of providing release notes for the Canary channel, and depending on the feedback, it should decide whether such information would be shared for every build or not.

Microsoft Edge Canary receives updates on a daily basis, which means the software giant would publish changelogs every day as well.

As for what’s new in Microsoft Edge Canary 80.0.319.0, there are actually lots of changes (and you can check out the full release notes in the box after the jump), including a new option that warns of dangerous downloads. Furthermore, whenever the microphone or the camera is being used on a website, you should see a notification in the address bar.

Support for Firefox history

Beginning with this update, Firefox history can also be imported, and Microsoft Edge now allows users to open apps from the keyboard. Extensions that can modify the appearance of the application can also be installed from the Chrome Web Store, Microsoft says.

As every other release, there are plenty of fixes too, including for some crashes that occurred occasionally. Microsoft explains that it resolved a bug that caused Edge to close when opening favorites with touch input, and saving PDF documents should no longer crash the tab.

There are also behavior tweaks, with the browser now checking for updates more frequently. The PDF toolbar has been removed temporarily, but more information on the reasons for this decision isn’t available right now.

Keep in mind that this is still a Canary build and bugs here and there shouldn’t necessarily be surprising. If you want a more stable experience, you can give a try to the Dev and Beta builds, which are generally more reliable.
