Microsoft has recently announced Microsoft Edge 83, the next major version of the Chromium-based browser that’s now available on older Windows, Windows 10, and macOS.

Microsoft Edge 83 comes with a massive changelog, and one of the most notable improvements is support for extension synchronization.

In other words, beginning with this release, your extensions can roam across devices, and both extensions from the Microsoft add-on store and the Chrome Web Store are supported. The feature needs to be enabled from the settings screen after updating.

Then, Edge 83 introduces Automatic Profile Switching, a feature that comes in very handy for those using their personal and work accounts in the browser. In just a few words, this feature detects when you’re connecting to a website requiring a work account and it automatically switches to the work profile.

“If you use multiple profiles at work, you can check it out by navigating to a site requiring authentication from your work or school account while on your personal profile. When we detect this, you will receive a prompt to switch to your work profile to access that site without having to authenticate to it. When you choose the work profile you want to switch to, the website will simply open in your work profile. This profile switching capability will help you keep your work and personal data separate and help you get to your work content more effortlessly,” Microsoft explains.

Of course, the feature can be disabled if you don’t want to use it.

This new version also introduces a new option to set Microsoft Edge as the default browser from settings, as well as a new entry in the tab context menu that allows users to “Add all tabs to a new collection.”

The new version of the browser is rolling out gradually to users, but if you don’t want to wait, you can download Microsoft Edge 83 manually using the stand-alone installer available here.
