14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released a new version of Skype for several platforms, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone, iPad, and the Web.
The update, which brings the version to 8.52, brings a plethora of changes, including a dark mode for mobile operating systems.
This means Skype finally gets a dark theme on Android, iPhone, and iPad, and if you are running the latest version of Android or iOS, the app automatically aligns with system settings. In other words, should you activate dark mode at system level on iPhone or Android, Skype goes dark as well.
Additionally, mobile versions of Skype now feature call scheduling for groups. This makes it so much easier to pre-arrange a time for a call, and after rolling out this feature for standard calls, Microsoft now brings it to groups as well.
Desktop improvements
The same feature is available on Windows, Mac, Linux, and the web, according to the official changelog.
But at the same time, the desktop version of Skype also comes with drag and drop improvements to make it working with contacts more convenient.
“Want to share a contact with another contact, or just add someone to a conversation? In Skype for desktop, just drag and drop your contact right from the contact list into a conversation. You will have the option to either add or share your contact to that chat,” Microsoft explains.
And last but not least, there are several fixes in this release, and these include grouped notifications on Android, the ability to move and resize video previews during a video call in Split View, and other smaller refinements that should overall polish the experience with the app on all platforms.
Microsoft says the Skype update is rolling out gradually, so if can’t see it just yet, wait for a few more hours and then check again on your mobile device.
