New version now available in the Apple App Store

Microsoft customers using an iPhone to connect to OneDrive are now provided with a major update that includes a bunch of new features currently available on iOS exclusively, but likely to land on Android too.

First and foremost, it’s worth noting that judging from the version, this doesn’t seem to be a notable release (the new build is 10.33.5, an update from 10.31.1 – Microsoft has also released 10.33.6 to fix a bunch of bugs).

However, with this OneDrive update, Microsoft introduces a new feature called On This Day, which shows a photo that you took in the past on each specific day.

“Take a blast from the past and rediscover photos from years past with our new On This Day feature - available in our Photos page. When we find memories to show you, we'll let you know,” Microsoft explains.

Camera roll improvements

As many OneDrive users know already, devices can be configured to automatically upload files from the camera roll to the cloud. And beginning with this version, OneDrive now organizes the camera roll folder by year and month, which means you should be able to find your pictures a lot easier. This change also makes the app a bit faster, Microsoft says.

OneDrive, which now supports iOS 12 too, brings improvements for business users as well. “Sharing from the Photos view took a temporary summer break. This issue has been fixed, and is feeling ‘refreshed and reinvigorated,’” Microsoft adds.

There are also several fixes in the .6 release, like a crash that users encountered when browsing offline files, as well as refinements for the iMessage app. Everything should now be smoother on both old and new versions of iOS.

You can download the new OneDrive app from the App Store. iOS 10.1 or later is needed, and the app supports iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
