New builds now up for grabs in the Beta channel

Microsoft has released new Windows 11 preview builds for Windows insiders in the Beta channel, and just like before, the company has shipped two different builds.

In other words, some users are getting the new build with new features enabled, while the rest of them are getting the very same build but without the latest new features.

  • Build 22622.575 = New features rolling out.
  • Build 22621.575 = New features off by default.

The most notable change in the build that comes with new features concerns File Explorer, as Microsoft now allows users to middle-click a folder in the navigation folder in order to open it in a new tab.

Needless to say, this is behavior that makes perfect sense, as the same middle-click option is also integrated into browsers.

However, Microsoft has also included plenty of other improvements and refinements for the experience with File Explorer:

  • Fixed an issue where launching File Explorer in certain ways when using dark mode (for example, from the command line) was showing the body of File Explorer unexpectedly in light mode.
  • Fixed an issue where the left/right arrows in File Explorer were in light mode when you were using dark mode, causing them to not have enough contrast to show when they were enabled.
  • Fixed an issue causing UI issues in File Explorer when using F11 to put File Explorer in full screen mode.
  • Fixed an issue where if you drag and drop a folder into the navigation pane was sometimes unexpectedly putting the folder at the bottom of the list rather than where you’d dropped it.
  • Fixed an issue where the dividers in the navigation pane were overlapping / drawing too close to text sometimes.
  • Fixed an issue where the context menu when right clicking on a tab wasn’t being translated.

There are several known issues in these builds, and insiders are strongly recommended to check out the full changelog on this page.
