Microsoft has recently released a new Windows update, this time specifically aimed at Arm devices. The company says its purpose is to resolve an AAD sign-in issue.

Windows cumulative update KB5016138 is available for download on Windows 11 and the supported versions of Windows 10.

Microsoft says this update resolved a glitch that was previously caused by another cumulative update and which made it impossible to use apps like Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and Outlook.

However, it’s important to note that only Arm devices were impacted.

“After installing KB5014697 on a Windows Arm-based devices, you might be unable to sign in using Azure Active Directory (AAD). Apps and services which use Azure Active Directory to sign in, might also be affected. Some scenarios which might be affected are VPN connections, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and Outlook. Note: This issue only affects Windows devices which are using Arm processors,” Microsoft said, while also recommending users to switch to the web-based versions of the affected apps.

Also available via Windows Update

In a new announcement this week, Microsoft explains that the issue has finally been resolved with the release of an out-of-band update that can only be downloaded on Arm devices. The update is KB5016138, and it can be installed only on the affected Windows versions running on Arm computers.

“This issue was resolved in the out-of-band security update KB5016138, released June 20, 2022. This update is available only for Arm-based Windows devices. This update is not needed for x86-based or x64-based devices using AMD or Intel CPUs, so it is not available for those architectures. It is available via Windows Update, Windows Update for Business, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Microsoft Update Catalog,” the company notes.

Given it’s shipped via Windows Update, if automatic updates are enabled on your device, there’s a chance the update is already there waiting to be installed.
