And the whole thing gets confusing one more time

Microsoft has released a new preview build of Windows 10 19H2, and just like before, this new build lands as a cumulative update that is shipped via Windows Update.

While Windows 10 19H2 builds offered as cumulative updates are part of new delivery approach that Microsoft is testing, users in the Release Preview ring might find the whole thing rather confusing.

And it’s all because in addition to the new Windows 10 19H2 update, Microsoft is also offering a new build to Release Preview ring users, but included in the 19H1 release.

As a summary, here are the new builds available to users in the Release Preview ring today:

· Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring who are on 19H1 Build 18362.329 will get 19H1 Build 18362.385 today. · Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring who are on 19H2 Build 18363.329 will get 19H2 Build 18363.385 today.

No release date for Windows 10 19H2

Because the same servicing content is offered to both Windows 10 versions, the same cumulative update can be used as well. The difference is that on Windows 19H2, the cumulative update comes with an extra switch that enables new features for testing in the Insider program.

Microsoft says that Release Preview ring insiders who are still running 19H1 builds can also update to 19H2 from Windows Update.

“For Insiders in the Release Preview ring who are not yet on 19H2, you will continue to see a Windows 10, version 1909 update available If you go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. You can choose to install this update to receive 19H2 Build 18363.385 and future 19H2 builds,” the company explains.

At this point, Windows 10 19H2 doesn’t yet have a release date, but according to Microsoft’s typical schedule, the update should be finalized this month and then pushed to users beginning with October.
