14 DAY TRIAL // A number of Windows 10 users have noticed a surprising appearance on their systems these days, as a shortcut to an app called Video Editor showed up out of nowhere.
Needless to say, this made many believe that Microsoft released a new video editing app for Windows 10, a thing which at some level makes sense, and the company preinstalled it on their systems, as it happened in the case of bloatware like Candy Crush Saga.
But as it turns out, this isn’t a stand-alone Video Editor for Windows 10, but only a shortcut that points users to the video editing options bundled into the Photos app.
Just a shortcut to Photos app
Basically, Microsoft’s purpose here is to provide users with instant access to video tools in the Photos apps, making it faster to edit a clip in Windows 10. If this comes in handy is up to each and every one of us, but Microsoft though that a more straightforward way to launch the video editor in the Photos app makes sense on Windows 10.
Needless to say, you can safely remove this shortcut, though for the time being, it’s not clear if you can bring it back at a later time. Microsoft created this on purpose without telling anyone, which itself is an approach that could lead to more criticism in the user community.
In the meantime, the Photos app is evolving at a fast pace in Windows 10, and the video editing features that are part of this really come in handy for basic tasks that do not require professional skills.
This means that there’s no chance for Microsoft to release a stand-alone video editor for Windows 10 anytime soon, despite the fact that at some level, bundling video features in an app called Photos could seem a little bit confusing for some.
