14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has temporarily pulled Sets from Windows 10 Redstone 5 preview builds, as the company wants to refine the experience ahead of the public launch.
Sets is a new Windows 10 feature supposed to bring tabs all across the operating system by grouping apps and Win32 programs in a single window. Announced last year and released during the Redstone 5 development program for Windows insiders, Sets is now being pulled from preview builds.
Microsoft says that it doesn’t have a date as to when Sets could return to Windows 10 preview builds, but on the other hand, it’s believed that the Redstone 5 update due in the fall wouldn’t include such functionality.
“We continue to receive valuable feedback from you as we develop this feature helping to ensure we deliver the best possible experience once it’s ready for release,” Microsoft says.
No release date just yet
“Starting with this build, we’re taking Sets offline to continue making it great. Based on your feedback, some of the things we’re focusing on include improvements to the visual design and continuing to better integrate Office and Microsoft Edge into Sets to enhance workflow. If you have been testing Sets, you will no longer see it as of today’s build, however, Sets will return in a future WIP flight.”
Despite being projected to launch in Redstone 5, Sets never received a specific ETA from Microsoft. The company originally announced in 2017 and many people expected this feature to be part of the April 2018 Update.
While the development process of Sets has gained traction during the Redstone 5 testing, it looks like the company will hold this feature back a little longer, again without providing any timing information as to when it could launch. Microsoft is clearly playing the safety card here, as it’s aware that last-minute bugs or critical issues could lead to delays that the company wants to avoid by all means.
