Company tweaks Surface Pro lineup with new model

Microsoft has recently launched a new Surface Pro configuration, and the company now continues tweaking this model lineup by giving up on the previous base i5 version.

Specifically, the software giant has just debuted a new Surface Pro model with an Intel Core i5 processor, and just like the entry-level version, it features the same chip and the same amount of storage, namely 128GB SSD. The only difference between the two was the amount of RAM, as the original version boasted 4GB, while the newer sibling was upgraded to 8GB.

Somewhat odd was that both devices were available with the same $999 price tag, making many people wonder why the company keeps offering the 4GB version and who would ever purchase it given that they can get more for the same price.

But as it turns out, it was all part of a product adjustment strategy, as Microsoft has now pulled the 4GB version, making the 8GB configuration the new entry-level in the Intel Core i5 lineup.

The most affordable Surface Pro continues to be the one powered by an Intel m3 chip and sold for $799, but for $200 more, customers can get a faster processor and more RAM.

Microsoft hasn’t publicly announced this change, but the old configuration can no longer be purchased from its stores. Instead, if for some reason you want to buy it, there’s a chance you could find it in stock at other retailers, though sooner or later these units would be pulled as well.

For what it’s worth, the most expensive Surface Pro model comes with an Intel Core i7 chip and boasts no less than 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Of course, you have to pay a lot more, as this particular version can be yours from the Microsoft Store for $2,699.
