Microsoft typically shares big news as part of its largest events throughout the year, but the company is now planning to host a series of mini-events that would be specifically used for certain products in its portfolio.

According to a report from The Verge, the virtual events would be aimed at Windows, gaming, and other products, though for the time being, the company is yet to confirm any of them.

At first glance, this is an approach that makes total sense, especially since the world has changed after 2020 and most events now take place online.

Microsoft might try a different strategy this time, all in an attempt to discuss certain improvements coming to specific products more thoroughly, without waiting for the large events it typically hosts annually, such as Build and Ignite.

Lots of news on the Windows front

When it comes to Windows, there’s a lot Microsoft has to share, as 2021 is likely to bring important changes for the operating system.

First of all, it’s the debut of Windows 10X, the new operating system supposed to power the dual-screen strategy but which would first debut on single-screen devices. Expected in the spring of this year, Windows 10X is already finalized and would only be available pre-loaded on partner devices.

The spring is also expected to bring us a new Windows 10 feature update, this time in the form of a smaller pack of improvements. Windows 10 version 21H1 won’t be focused on new capabilities but mostly on refining the experience under the hood.

Then, a major Windows 10 feature update is due in the fall with big improvements, including lots of new features. Codenamed Sun Valley, this release should enter the testing program rather sooner than later, so Microsoft could use all these upcoming events to discuss changes coming on the Windows front.
