16GB RAM version to be added to SP6 lineup

Microsoft is planning to release a new Surface Pro 6 version later this summer, and the biggest change will be the increased amount of RAM on the Intel Core i5 processor.

As discovered by German site WinFuture, Microsoft will roll out upgraded variants not only of the Surface Pro 6, but also of the 15-inch Surface Book 2.

By the looks of things, Microsoft wants to offer the 16GB RAM upgrade in a much more appealing package that would come with a compelling price versus the Intel Core i7 configuration.

Specifically, the Surface Pro 6 with an Intel Core i5 chip and 16GB RAM would be sold for $1,399, while the Surface Book 2 with the same configuration will be available for $1,999. Both would come with a 256GB SSD by default, albeit they would lack dedicated NVIDIA graphics and stick with integrated GPU.

Launch planned for mid-June

The two listings were spotted on the Canadian website of retailer Best Buy, but the links have already been removed, which is typically the living proof that the product pages went live too early and the upgrades are indeed coming to the market.

Most likely, Microsoft will announce the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Book 2 upgrades in mid-June, and they will be available not only at Best Buy, but also at the Microsoft Store and other retailers. The same prices are likely to be used in all stores.

Microsoft has remained tight-lipped on such upgrades for its Surface models, but you shouldn’t be surprised if they indeed go live next month. The company has been working hard on making its mid-range Surface models more appealing for buyers, especially as the high-end configurations are generally more expensive and not everyone affords to pay a premium price just to get a Surface.
