No major changes apparently included in this update

Microsoft has just released version 3.0 of its Outlook email client for Android, and users can download it right away using the standalone APK installer.

The new build isn’t yet published in the Google Play store, but it should become available for everyone in the coming hours. At this point, the Google Play Store version is 2.2.266, last updated on January 11.

Although it’s quite a major update, Outlook 3.0 for Android doesn’t seem to bring any breaking changes and the official release notes, in fact, point to only subtle changes.

For instance, the changelog claims this update allows users to “see a preview of the calendar when you RSVP to an event invitation.” As in every new version, Microsoft also says that it also includes performance improvements and bug fixes, though no specifics are provided.

Version 3.0 for iOS

However, it’s worth noting that this changelog hasn’t been updated from the previous release, so it’s not yet known if any changes have been made this time or not.

Microsoft including only rather subtle tweaks in this update is a little surprising, especially because the release of Outlook 3.0 brought substantial improvements to iPhones.

Announced in early December, Microsoft Outlook 3.0 for iOS included a visual overhaul that made the app more easily recognizable, with refinements in terms of colors, shapes, and iconography. Many of these tweaks were already available on Android, including the blue Outlook header.

It remains to be seen if more changes that have escaped unnoticed are part of this release, as Microsoft is expected to share the release notes when the public rollout in the Google Play Store begins.
