Microsoft kicks off the November 2018 Patch Tuesday rollout tomorrow, and this new patching cycle could also mark the second attempt of the company to push Windows 10 October 2018 Update to users worldwide.

Also known as version 1809, the October update was finalized for users participating in the Windows Insider program in September.

The public rollout started on October 2, when users on production devices were allowed to begin the download from Windows Update by simply checking for updates. A few days later, however, Microsoft suspended the rollout after discovering a bug deleting files in user libraries, like documents.

Additionally, the company pulled the official ISOs and the other download methods, like the Media Creation Tool, explaining that all these links would go live once again after the bug is fixed.

In the meantime, it shipped several fixes to Windows Insiders enrolled in the Slow and Release Preview rings, without actually making them available to the users who downloaded the update on October 2.

New cumulative updates for devices already on 1809

It’s believed that the November 2018 Patch Tuesday cycle would also include new cumulative updates to resolve these issues on all devices, while those who haven’t yet install the October update would get the new version with all fixes built-in.

Microsoft has until now remained tight-lipped on anything related to the re-release of the October update and this approach has created quite a controversy regarding the way the company handles user feedback and understands the concept of transparency.

While it’s certainly weird for the October update to actually be released in November, Microsoft most likely pushed back the re-launch in order to correct all the other glitches that made the rounds lately on devices updated early last month.

It remains to be seen how the second release attempt would go, but for now, it’s pretty clear that not too many users would rush to install the October update this time.
