The two devices might support pen input from launch

Microsoft unveiled its new high-end Lumia models earlier this week, and now as everyone's waiting for the two devices to start shipping, more information on some undisclosed features starts surfacing.

This time, Twitter user @Nawzil10 (via WMPU), who has previously leaked some accurate information on Microsoft's projects, claims both Lumia flagships would come with Surface Pen support, which basically means that anyone can write and draw on their screens just like on a regular tablet.

The Surface Pen, which has also been improved as part of the device rollout announced on October 6, will work on the two Lumias, the source said, and it turns out that it will be supported from launch.

Surprisingly, Microsoft hasn't said anything about this feature during its hardware event, even though it's believed to be one of the key additions to the phone lineup, but more information could be provided as we get closer to the day when the phones will start shipping.

A rival for Note5

Although using a pen on a 5.2-inch device such as the Lumia 950 doesn't make much sense, it's surely a lot more appealing on the bigger Lumia 950 XL, which features a 5.7-inch screen.

Plus, the Surface Pen not only that would provide the phone with additional capabilities, but it would also make it a rival for the Note5, which already comes with a stylus of its own.

It's no secret that Microsoft's betting big on the Surface Pen and Panos Panay, the man in charge with the devices division at the company, says that most Surface Pro 3 owners are already addicted to this little accessory.

“Did you know right now — you don’t know this because only I know this, but I’m going to share it with you. Fifty percent of people using Surface Pro 3, do you know they use a pen? When we started this, somebody actually walked into my office and said, “Hey, P, I don’t know that we should ship a pen.” I’m, like, “Why?” Because nobody writes anymore. Do you believe that? Where have we gone? Nobody writes anymore?” he said during the hardware event on Tuesday.

The Surface Pen is very likely to be sold separately in the case of the new Lumias, but expect Microsoft to offer special combos that would be available at special prices.
