Microsoft has just announced that the language interpretation feature in Microsoft Teams has reached the general availability.

In other words, users who want to rely on a professional interpreter to translate the language used by a speaker to another language can do this in a much more convenient way.

The language interpretation support comes in handy particularly for users who want to listen to a meeting in a language they know, while also being able to collaborate in a meeting where multiple languages are being used.

“Our language interpretation feature will allow professional interpreters to convert the speaker’s message into another language without disrupting the speaker’s original flow or delivery. This simultaneous interpretation will lead to more inclusive meetings, where participants who speak different languages can fully collaborate with each other,” the software giant explains in an announcement today.

Microsoft has developed this feature in such a way that organizers have full control over the way interpreters join their meetings.

For example, organizers can even interpreters to a meeting once the meeting is scheduled or saved. Furthermore, they can promote a simple participating to an interpreter even during a meeting.

“Interpreters can start interpreting immediately after joining a meeting. When participants join a meeting with language interpretation enabled, they can select a language channel to listen to during the meeting. They should then be able to hear the interpreter’s translation at a louder volume than the main speaker,” the software giant explains. “Language interpretation can be added to any meeting. After you organize a meeting, you can add language interpretation to it and invite your organization's interpreters to join.”

The new feature is live today for all Microsoft Teams users, with additional information provided to customers in a tech support document available on this page.
