Microsoft has just released Windows 10 cumulative update KB4464330, the first-ever such update for the newly-released October 2018 Update.

Also known as version 1809, this new OS feature update is no longer available for download with a manual request via Windows Update due to bugs leading to data loss.

However, this cumulative update is specifically aimed at users who managed to install it during the days when it was available, but also for the first systems getting it from Windows Update as an automatic rollout.

Beginning today, Microsoft offers Windows 10 October 2018 Update to computers in waves, and more devices will get it as the company ensures smooth upgrade experience.

Windows 10 cumulative update comes with just two changes, one of which concerns the security improvements that Microsoft has included in the Patch Tuesday rollout. The Windows kernel, Windows Peripherals component, and the Microsoft Graphics Component are all getting improvements.

No known issue

There’s also a second change and Microsoft says it has fixed a bug in the October 2018 Update happening group policies.

“Addresses an issue affecting group policy expiration where an incorrect timing calculation may prematurely remove profiles on devices subject to the "Delete user profiles older than a specified number of day,’” Microsoft explains.

Cumulative update KB4464330 increases the OS build number to 17763.55. There are no known issues, which means that all devices should be able to install it correctly without any problem.

The update has already installed on our testing systems, and by the looks of it, Microsoft has made substantial improvements to the updating experience. Everything completed in just a couple of minutes with no issue whatsoever.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on reports to see how the experience with this first version 1809 cumulative update turns out to be, and in the meantime you’re recommended to begin patching too.
