As part of the company’s education push, Microsoft took the wraps off a new Surface Pen that’s available for just $40, and it is specifically aimed at teachers and students.

Called the Microsoft Classroom Pen, the new stylus is only sold in packs of 20 units, which means that it has a final cost of $799.80. You can’t buy just one, and obviously, the device won’t be sold in stores, but only to schools partnering with Microsoft.

The new Classroom Pen is designed to work with the Surface Go, and it’ll be offered in all markets where the 2-in-1 device already exists.

The Surface Go itself is a device aimed at the education market, as it’s the smallest and cheapest Surface model ever released by Microsoft. It runs Windows 10 in S Mode, but can be upgraded to full Windows 10.

Replacement tips for all pens

Microsoft’s Classroom Pen also comes with a replacement tip for each pen that is included in the box, so for $799, you basically get 20 pens and 20 replacement tips.

“The Microsoft Classroom Pen is designed for students who put their learning tools through heavy wear and tear and features a durable, hardened pen tip and a replacement tip for each pen included in the box. Plus, a built-in slot at the end makes for easy tethering to students’ device cases, so the pen doesn’t get lost,” Microsoft explains.

The first markets will get the new Surface Pen next month, and Microsoft encourages schools to begin placing their orders in anticipation of the new school year.

Earlier today, Microsoft also announced seven cheaper Windows 10 devices developed by partners specifically with the education market in mind. These devices all come with support for pens and will be available from $189.
