Microsoft has just announced Microsoft Editor, a new spelling and grammar tool that’s available as part of the new Microsoft 365 and which can also be used in Chromium-powered browsers.

Microsoft is already offering state-of-the-art grammar tools in Microsoft Office, but the company is now further expanding its offering with a tool that does the whole magic right in the browser.

Users of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other Chromium browsers will be able to install the extension from the Chrome Web Store and benefit from features like an alternate vocabulary, punctuation, as well as recommendations on how to improve the sentence clarity.

Also available in Outlook

Similar features are already available in Grammarly, so it’s very clear that Microsoft Editor, whose rollout is projected to be completed by the end of April, is specifically supposed to be offered as a competing product.

“With the release of Microsoft Editor’s standalone browser extension, Editor now moves with you across the web so you can easily write clear, accurate content anywhere you want. Whether you are posting casually on Facebook or LinkedIn or writing in depth for a site like Medium, you can create with confidence knowing Editor will flag misspelled words and grammatical errors,” Microsoft explains.

“As with the other places Editor is available, your Microsoft 365 subscription will give you access to advanced recommendations on style, clarity, inclusive language, and much more in 20+ languages. The Microsoft Editor browser extension will release in both the Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge web stores in the next few weeks. When available, install and get started!”

The new Microsoft Editor will be available in more than 20 languages, including French, Spanish, German, and others. Microsoft is also bringing the Editor to Word for the Web, Outlook, and Outlook for the web.
